CULTURAL ORIENTATION & LANGUAGE


It is hard to imagine a more exhilarating landscape or people and geography as diverse as Nepal's. Within its narrow borders, a complete climatic range, from tropical to temperate, alpine to arctic can be found. Cultural diversity is celebrated by the country's population of 23 million, who speak as many as 30 different languages and dialects.

The semester in Nepal begins with orientation in and around the Katmandu valley with introductory meetings, language classes, introduction to Nepali customs and cultural excursions. While living with Nepali families in Katmandu, we offer language training, lectures, and field trips. You can choose an internship in arts, music or philosophical understudy or volunteer your time in community and humanitarian projects. This is followed by a week of village stay exploring the rural countryside. A trek follows - walking the trails from village to village and witnessing the amazing Himalayas and her people. The final week of the program is spent rafting down the Trisuli River to the jungles of Chitwan in the southern part of the country.

Cultural Exchange & Community Guest:

We believe that the young people of this new global world are building and forming everlasting friendships at festivals and the cultural exposure enriches them. Our faith, in this bonding, fuels our passion to work harder and extensively participate in International Cultural exchange festivals to help in forging and reinforcing cultural ties of Nepal with the rest of the world. Global Partnership follows the Global Community Guest program - an innovation that moulds youngster?s character and attitude to develop them into bright and wholesome individuals. This program enables the participating groups to leave a pleasant and lasting impression on the host country and to make the most of the trip. Discipline, proper conduct, skills required to adjust to a new culture, personal finances, dealing with foreigners and basic language of the host country are all skill sets that are imparted to the youngsters prior to the journey. Volunteer will stay in a village with Nepali family. During there stay, volunteer will learn Nepali language for 2 hours in the morning and in the afternoon, they will visit local village and will go to the local school during the day. The community guest is a good opportunity for volunteers to learn about Nepali people and there lifestyle.

In atypical placement volunteer stay in family where they get Nepali food twice a day (Around 9 o clock in the morning and 7 in the evening) Tea is served in the morning and the afternoon. You will be able to travel near by towns to purchase things for daily use. Beside project works volunteer can utilize there time in youth and women group to do some thing like building toilet by using local materials kitchen garden, garbage management etc.



Nepali Language & Cultural Studies:

Global Partnership offers this program especially for long-term volunteers. During this program volunteers will learn a basic knowledge of Nepali language. In order to make voluntary work easier it is very compulsory and this is a good opportunity for volunteers to learn about the Nepali culture, lifestyle and the people. Beside this, volunteer will enjoy sightseeing the Katmandu valley (the capital city of Nepal), church visits and joint cultural programs.
